This is the question everyone is asking - with the rise in smartphones, is it time to be m-commerce ready?
Sales of mobiles and smart-phones are massive - we all know that. They've even overtaken PCs - but does that mean people are accessing the internet on their devices? The actual amount of internet usage on mobile devices is debatable - but probably accounts for around 10% of all internet access, in Q1 of 2012. A not insignificant amount.
What is absolutely certain is that this rate is going to increase, and most likely start to increase rapidly.
So by not having a mobile shop yet, you probably aren't missing out on too many customers, but the way to look at this maybe to step back 10 years or so, to before the internet took off the way it has, and before you opened your first website or online shop. If you knew then what you knew now, about how the internet would revolutionise business, perhaps instead of screaming at the 10th web-designer to interrupt your morning pleading with you to allow them to build you a 5 page website - you'd have jumped in your car and taken them out for lunch!!!!
Well that opportunity is here again - except we have more historical evidence to suggest that the mobile internet revolution will be just as big.
Maybe this time, instead of being a follower, you can be a leader - a pioneer in your marketplace. Jumping in early will allow you to get a good head start on your competition, allowing you to build up a critical mass with a loyal customer base, so that when your competitors catch up, you'll already have your market share.
